Wichita State Supporters
The WSU Alumni Association is a group of Shocker supporters whose purpose is to serve WSU, alumni, students and the community. They help Shockers stay connected to the University, and one another, by upholding traditions, hosting reunions and sponsoring social events supporting WSU and honoring Shocker Pride. Since 1965, the WSU Foundation has sought to fulfill former WSU President Emory Lindquist’s original vision of providing the “great difference between a university and a university of excellence.” Today, more than 1,100 endowed funds and 500 current funds provide scholarship support, as well as support for professorships and chairs, the library, the Ulrich Museum and other areas on campus. The mission of Student Health Services (SHS) is to assist students in maintaining a state of optimum physical and mental wellness. SHS provides medical care and treatment for ill and injured students. Services also include health and wellness education, nutrition counseling and limited pharmacy services. WSU’s Counseling and Testing Center provides psychological services for personal, learning and mental health issues. Professional counseling is available to all WSU students, faculty and staff. The center also offers academic testing services which include the credit by exam program, departmental exams, CLEP tests and entrance exams for colleges and graduate schools. The Office for Student Money Management (OSMM—pronounced “awesome”) provides free personal finance education for students, by students. With a range of services provided, visit wichita.edu/OSMM to see how saving money is OSMM.
The Office of Student Involvement offers more than 200 student organizations such as fraternity/sorority life, leadership development programs and community service and civic engagements. They can even help you create your own organization!
WSU’s Writing Center offers free tutoring to students at every level and in all majors. Tutors offer assistance with all aspects of writing including brainstorming, organization, style and revision.
The Center for Excellence in Oral Communication (Speech Lab) offers assistance in reducing the fear of public speaking as well as assistance with writing and presenting a speech.
Free assistance is also available in WSU’s Math Lab which is open Monday-Friday with tutoring available on a drop-in basis.
